For contractors and fabricators planning a purchase in the Klang Valley, a clear material list helps reduce back-and-forth before a quotation. A request for just "hollow sections" leaves important details open. Prepare the information below and identify anything that still needs confirmation.
1. Product and outside dimensions
State whether you need square hollow sections (SHS) or rectangular hollow sections (RHS). Include the outside dimensions and units exactly as shown in your approved material list or drawing.
For example, a request might specify RHS with outside dimensions of 100 mm × 50 mm. This is a notation example, not a product recommendation or confirmation of stock.
2. Wall thickness
Include the required wall thickness in millimetres. Outside dimensions alone do not fully describe the section. If a tolerance is specified in the project documents, include it rather than assuming all quotations refer to the same specification.
3. Grade, standard and finish
Copy the required material grade and applicable standard from your project specification. Also state whether a particular finish or coating is required. If these details are missing, ask the responsible designer or project team to confirm them before ordering.
If inspection documents or material certificates are required, identify them in the enquiry and ask the supplier to confirm what can be provided.
4. Length and quantity
State the length per piece and number of pieces. If cutting is required, provide a cutting list and ask whether cutting services, charges and tolerances can be confirmed. Do not assume a quoted piece length is the length your project requires.
5. Delivery requirements
Provide the delivery address or postcode, requested date and site contact. Mention access restrictions or unloading requirements and confirm who is responsible for unloading. Ask whether transport is included or separately charged.
6. Compare matching quotations
Compare the same dimensions, thickness, grade, finish, length and quantity. Check taxes, delivery, payment terms, quotation validity and exclusions. Availability, lead time and price must be confirmed at the time of enquiry.
